Step 1 : Introduction to the question "Which is the deepest lake in the U.S.?"
...The deepest lake in the United States is in southern Oregon. Crater Lake, also called Caldera, got its name from the volcanic crater which formed it. Mount Mazama erupted about 8,000 years ago, leaving the magma chamber empty. The resulting crater measures over six miles across. The water filling the crater came from thousands of years of rain and melting snow and ice. Because no streams or rivers run into or out of the lake, the water level remains fairly stable.
